INTRODUCTION
India has a total of 1200000 sq.miles of area out of which 100000 sq.miles are covered with densely forested thinly populated hills.
Vegetation and human habitation extends to altitudes as high as 14000 to 16000 feet above MSL but mostly confined to 10000 to 12000 feet.
In order to exploit vast potential of hilly areas like mineral deposit, forest resources, valuable medicinal herb, scenic beauty, bracing climate & hydel power for its renewable & nonpolluting nature a new network of road are essential ....etc
