Automatic bar feed mechanism having a push rod movable to and from a rod machine such as an automatic winch to feed a bar material thereto, the push bar being driven by a motor in the initial stage of the Feed stroke and including the machining operation. Means are provided to prevent the bar material from being accelerated by the gravitational drive to strike against parts of the bar machine. The motor drive further operates in cooperation with a clamping mechanism for engaging the bar material.
