CYCLOCONVERTERS

In industrial applications, two forms of electrical energy are used: direct current (dc) and
alternating current (ac). Usually constant voltage constant frequency single-phase or three-phase
ac is readily available. However, for different applications, different forms, magnitudes and/or
frequencies are required. There are four different conversions between dc and ac power sources.
These conversions are done by circuits called power converters. The converters are classi ....etc

Cyclo-converter

A cycloconverter or a cycloinverter converts an AC waveform, such as the mains supply, to another AC waveform of a lower frequency, synthesizing the output waveform from segments of the AC supply without an intermediate direct-current link.

Cycloconverter

Cycloconverter is frequency changer that converts AC power at one input frequency to AC output power at a different frequency.
Variable frequency output can be obtained by AC to DC to AC using phase-controlled converters (rectifier followed by inverter). This is two s ....etc

CHAPTER-1

INTRODUCTION

1.1 History

Increasing transmission distance and capacity is always the motivation to advance power industry technologies . In the history of the ac transmission system, increasing distance and capacity mainly depends on raising voltage level of transmission lines. At present, the highest voltage level of the ac power transmission line in operation is 750 kV. To further upgrade, the voltage level encounters difficulties of material and environment issues. The high-voltage direct current (H ....etc

ABSTRACT

This paper focuses on a shunt active filter based on the detection of harmonic voltages at the point of installation. The objective of the active filter is to attenuate harmonic propagation resulting from series/parallel resonance between capacitors for power factor correction and line inductors in a power distribution line. The active filter acts as a low resistor to the external circuit for harmonic frequencies, and it is installed on the end bus of the power distribution line, just like a 50 O terminator installed on the end term ....etc
