INTRODUCTION

Fly ash is a byproduct of coal burning power plants - the ash that flies up their
smokestacks and gets captured in giant filters. It can be used to produce stronger, more
durable and more environmentally friendly concrete. When used in concrete, fly ash acts like

Results of a 2-yr study of cause-effect relationships involved in roughness of concrete pavements are reported. Data were derived both from analog traces obtained with a profilograph in each wheelpath of randomly selected pavements within hours after placement, and from qualitative observations of placement methods.
