INTRODUCTION
High performance concrete is a concrete having low water binder ratio. A value of 0.4 is suggested as boundary between usual concrete and high performance concrete.
It has high strength and durability. For high durability low permeability is required and to reduce permeability silica fume is used

Abstract
This study aims to determine the influence of the content of water and cement, water binder ratio, and
the replacement of fly ash and silica fume on the durability of high performance concrete (HPC) by using
artificial neural networks (ANNs). To achieve this, an ANNs model is developed to predict the durability of
high performance concrete which is expressed in terms of chloride ions permeability in accordance with

Silica fume is also referred to as micro silica or condensed silica fume but the term silica fume has been generally accepted. It is a by-product of manufacture of silica and ferrosilicon alloys from high purity quartz and coal in a submerged arc electric furnace. It is reported that the addition of ultra fine particle in HPC improves the strength of concrete. The optimum silica fume proportions in between 20% and 25% by weight of concrete. Silica fume, also known as microsilica, (CAS number 69012-64-2, EINECS number 273-761-1) is an amorphous (non-crystalline) polymorph of silicon dioxide, silica. It is an ultrafine powder collected as a by-product of the silicon and ferrosilicon alloy production and consists of spherical particles with an average particle diameter of 150 nm. Abstract
In 1980 a sidewalk was built at B cancour, Qu bec, with condensed silica fume concretes containing highly reactive aggregates. Eleven concrete mixes were used with cement quantities from 140 to 405 kg of cement per m3 and condensed silica fume substitutions varying from 10 to 40%.
