An optical mouse uses a light-emitting diode and photodiodes to detect movement relative to the underlying surface, rather than internal moving parts as does a mechanical mouse. the optical mouse actually uses a tiny camera to take 1,500 pictures every second. A small red red light-emitting diode (LED) is present in the mouse that emits the light which after reflection , falls onto a complimentary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) sensor. Movement is detected by sensing changes in reflected light, rather than by interpreting the motion of a rolling sphere.
