INTEGRAL BRIDGES

INTRODUCTION

Integral bridges in simple words, can be defined as bridges without joints. Integral bridges are characterized by monolithic connection between the deck and the substructure (piers and abutments). They span from one abutment, over intermediate support to the other abutment, without any joint in the deck. Integral bridges have been constructed all over the world including India.

Integral bridges can be defined as bridges without joints. They span from one abutment, over intermediate supports to the other abutment without any movement joint in the deck. The advantages of integral construction are greater durability and lower maintenance costs when compared with jointed bridges.

Integral bridges are not new, masonry arches being a typical early example. The bridges on the first section of the M1 constructed in 1959 are examples in reinforced concrete. Many more recent bridges were built with simple spans and joints at i ....etc

SEISMIC ANALYSIS OF BRIDGES USING DISPLACEMENT-BASED APPROACH

By Chung C. Fu and Hamed AlAyed, University of Maryland

ABSTRACT
Nonlinear Static (Pushover) Procedure is specified in the guidelines for seismic rehabilitation of buildings presented by FEMA-273 (1997) as an analytical procedure that can be used in systematic rehabilitation of structures. However, those guidelines were presented to apply the Displacement Coefficient Method, which implements the well-known equal displacement rule with some modifications to esti ....etc
