Multiband Hysteresis Modulation and Switching Characterization for Sliding-Mode-Controlled Cascaded Multilevel Inverter

INTRODUCTION

THE BASIC motivations for the use of multilevel inverters
are the reduction of voltage stress on power electronic
devices and the reduction in the switching harmonic content
of the voltage delivered by the voltage-source inverter (VSI).
The cascaded H-bridge multilevel-inverter (CHBMLI) configuration
has the advantage of its simplicity and mod ....etc

Atomistic Characterization of Dislocation Nucleation and Fracture

One of the central objectives of multiscale materials modeling is to develop and apply simulation techniques to uncover atomic-level mechanisms without the significant limitations on system size and simulation time inherent to purely atomistic methods. In this context, I have made two contributions. I developed an interatomic potential finite element method (IPFEM) to study homogeneous dislocation nucleation by nano-indentation. The implementation of IPFEM facilitates simulat ....etc

Abstract Network communities refer to groups of vertices within which their connecting links are dense but between which they are sparse. A network community mining problem (or NCMP for short) is concerned with the problem of finding all such communities from a given network. A wide variety of applications can be formulated as NCMPs, ranging from social and/or biological network analysis to web mining and searching. So far, many algorithms addressing NCMPs have been developed and most of them fall into the categories of either optimization bas ....etc

Objectives:
Rural areas in developing countries have energy crisis due to oil price increase on one hand and the depletion of traditional fuel resources such as firewood. In developing countries, the major part of energy requirement is for the domestic use for cooking, water, lighting and drinking water supply. Methane from biomass which is abundant in rural areas can be utilized to generate heat and electric energy. To make this possible, c ....etc

The most widely used pesticides utilized for the management of plant-parasitic nematodes
belong to the organophosphorus group. Their efficacy may be reduced in areas where adapted
microorganisms accumulate that are capable of rapidly degrading the active ingredients. The
enhanced biodegradation process of non-fumigant nematicides is of particular concern in
intensive agriculture. However, it remains unclear which microorganisms play the most
important role in the rapid metabolization and how and why this process develops.
Furthermore litt ....etc

Abstract Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) has been developed as an important technique for many high security and high integrity settings. In this paper, we study survivability issues for RFID. We first present an RFID survivability experiment to define a foundation to measure the degree of survivability of an RFID system under varying attacks. Then we model a series of malicious scenarios using stochastic process algebras and study the different effects of those attacks on the ability of the RFID system to provide critical services even ....etc

Over the last decade, particle tracking microrheology has matured as a new tool for complex fluids research. The main advantages of microrheology over traditional macroscopic rheometry are: the required sample size is extremely small ( 1 mL); local viscoelastic properties in a sample can be probed with high spatial resolution ( 1-10 mm); and the sample is not disturbed by moving rheometer parts. I will present two examples of recent work in my group that highlight how these characteristics can be exploited to acquire unique information about t ....etc
