The objective of the laboratory is learning. The experiments are designed to illustrate phenomena in different areas of Physics and to expose you to measuring instruments. Conduct the experiments with interest and an attitude of learning.

You need to come well prepared for the experiment
Work quietly and carefully (the whole purpose of experimentation is to make reliable measurements!) and equally share the work with your partners.
Be honest in recording and representing your data. Never make up readings or doctor them to get a better fi ....etc

It is impossible to do an experimental measurement with perfect accuracy. There is
always an uncertainty associated with any measured quantity in an experiment even
in the most carefully done experiment and despite using the most sophisticated
instruments. This uncertainty in the measured value is known as the error in that
particular measured quantity. There is no way by which one can measure a quantity
with one hundred percent accuracy. In presenting experimental results it is very
important to objectively estimate the error in the meas ....etc

1. What is semi conductor diode laser?

Semiconductor diode laser is a specially fabricated pn junction diode. It emits laser light when it is
forward biased.

2. What is LASER?

The term LASER stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. It is a device
which produces a powerful, monochromatic collimated beam of light in which the waves are coherent.

3. What are the characteristic of laser radiation?

Laser radiations have high intensity, high coherence, high monochoromation and high directionality
with less divergence.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
This book is designed to meet the course on Engineering Physics Practical of engineering curriculum for the First Year engineering students.
Laboratory work is an important part of the process of learning physics where students apply their knowledge practically.
As no textbook available on the market on Engineering Physics dealt with the experimental part in detail and so in the classroom lecture, the authors
bring out this book. The authors present this book in a very lucid style such that even a below average student ca ....etc

Examiner (E): What was the experiment allotted to you?

Students(S): Sir, I was assigned the experiment to determine the internal resistance of a primary cell using potentiometer.
E: OK, Tell me the principle of a potentiometer

S: Sir. The principle of a potentiometer is that the potential drop across any length of a wire of uniform cross section and composition and carrying a constant current is directly proportional to the length.
E: Good. What is internal resistance?

S: The resistance offered by the electrodes and electrolyte of a ....etc

Q.1: Define surface tension?
Ans. The tangential cohesive force acting along the unit length of the surface of a liquid
T = F / L
Where F = total force along a line
L = length of the line
In this experiment:
F = m g = weight of the pan + weight in the pan.
L = 2 (length of the slide) + 2 (breadth of the slide).
Sometime we neglect the breadth since it is very small.

Q.2: What are units of surface tension in C.G.S. and S.I. (M.K.S.) system?
Ans. Dynes / cm (C.G.S.)
Newton / meter (M.K.S.)

Q.3: What ....etc
