A tunnel diode or Esaki diode is a type of semiconductor that is capable of very fast operation, well into the microwave frequency region, made possible by the use of the quantum mechanical effect called tunneling.

It was invented in August 1957 by Leo Esaki when he was with Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo, now known as Sony. In 1973 he received the Nobel Prize in Physics, jointly with Brian Josephson, for discovering the electron tunneling effect used in these diodes. Hello, i'm israr from 8th semester ee. i chose automated railway gate control using plc (ge versamax) as my project. i used ir sensors to detect train and send signal to open the gate. so far in the input side there is no problem at all. but the output , that is a l293d driver controlling dc geared motors i don't know how to connect the l293d to the plc output. in l293d there 4 input terminals. 2 for each and you are suppoesed to give '0' that is a ground signal to i1 or i2 to operate in anti and clockwise respectively. but how do i give this 0 ....etc
