Design and Analysis of Snap Hook.
Project Details
Finite element analysis and design optimization were performed in ANSYS to minimize the volume of a hook body of a safety snap assembly. The hook body was manufactured from forged 1541 heat treated steel and the stress in the hook body could not exceed the yield strength of 180 ksi (1241.1 MPa). The hook geometry was simplified and preliminary hand calculations were used to predict stress values in the critical cross section of the hook. The hook was modeled in ANSYS using the bottom-up ....etc

Hydraulic arm - use syringes, aquarium tubing, wood. Kids build a similar one at a 4H junk drawer robotics class and love it. Pencil top erasers at the end of the hand work well as grippers. Let them try it first with air in the lines instead of water - air compresses so it doesn't work as well. (Good to teach some about properties of liquids, solids, gasses.)

I'am Bervic from Cape-town, student in Cape Peninsula University of Technology where i am studying Mechatronics..I am asked to design a movable hydraulic engine crane showing all the calculations ( moment, bendings, stress..)..the crane must be able to lift up to 2 tonnes and the lifting height is 2m measured from the ground level..
