ABSTRACT
The Transmeta Company introduced their Crusoe
processor in the January 2000 . This processor was
based on the x86 architecture with a software layer called
Code Morphing Software (CMS) comprised of an
interpreter, a run time system, and code optimizer running
on top of the processor . From an architectural stand
point it uses less transistors minimizing power
consumption; this however does not penalize performance
due to the 128 bit VILW instruction set architecture

The engine is a very long instruction word (VLIW) CPU capable of executing up to four operations in each clock cycle.
