Here s a clap switch free from false
triggering. To turn on/off any ap
pliance, you just have to clap
twice. The cir-cuit changes its output state
only when you clap twice within the set
time period. Here, you ve to clap within 3
seconds.
The clap sound sensed by condenser
microphone is amplified by transistor T1.
The amplified signal provides negative pulse
to pin 2 of IC1 and IC2, triggering both the
ICs. IC1, commonly used as a timer, is

All these circuits have about the same sensitivity as the single transistor circuit shown in fig 7 of Part II (shown below), using an AM radio as the receiver. They have been included to show the ingenuity of design-engineers, in an attempt to improve the performance.

Today we will discuss about making a simple clap switch that operates when it detects two clapping sounds in a row. It uses an electret microphone as a transducer for converting a clapping sound into an electrical signal. A clap switch circuit is a classic beginner s project.
Equipment can be switched on and off by just clapping your hands. Add a tiny microcontroller and you can easily build-in some more useful features.

The microcontroller in this circuit makes it a simple job to add some useful features that are not seen on other clap switch designs:
