A Distributed Control System (DCS) is a control system for a process or plant, wherein control elements (controllers) are distributed throughout the system. This is in contrast to non-distributed systems that use a single controller at a central location. In a DCS, a hierarchy of controllers is connected by communication networks for command and monitoring.

Example scenarios where a DCS might be used include:

Abstract

Simulation based control schemes for a low-energy building system are introduced and compared in this paper. The simulation of a low-energy system is firstly constructed and a fast two-stage optimisation method is proposed to find the optimal control policy in short time.
