Line follower is a machine that can follow a path. The path can be visible like a black line on a white surface (or vice-versa) or it can be invisible like a magnetic field.
Why build a line follower?

Linbot advanced line following robot

Linbot is an advanced line tracer robot. It has one pair of infrared emitters and sensors directed forward, as well as three pairs of infrared emitters and sensors directed downward. Linbot can follow a black line placed on a white floor as well as a white line on a black floor.

When it meets with an obstacle while following the line, it makes a U-turn and continues on. It comes in kit form, allowing the user to acquire hands on experience in robo ....etc

Abstract:
This Project Line Following Autonomous Robot is based on 8 bit Microcontroller. This Robot follows the black line which is drawn over the white surface or it follows the white line which is drawn over the black surface. The infrared sensors are used to sense the line. When the infrared signal falls on the white surface, it gets reflected and if it falls on the black surface, it is not reflected this principle is used to scan the Lines for the Robot.
