Holographic Versatile Disc (HVD) is an optical disc technology still in the research stage which would greatly increase storage over Blue-ray Disc and HP DVD optical disc systems. It employs a technique known as collinear holography, whereby two lasers, one red and one blue-green, are collimated in a single beam. The thought that data can be stored on plain paper can be considered crazy. The rainbow versatile disc(RVD) is the next generation that follows the CD and DVD. It uses a particular kind of paper to store the data. The storage capacity of RVD has 131 times larger than CD. Here , the system called a vertical lining is used. e-waste pollution can be profoundly reduced with this technology. The cost of making an RVD is only 50ps or Re1 and the material is recyclable.
