Abstract:
The atomic force microscope (AFM) or scanning force microscope (SFM) is a very high-resolution type of scanning probe microscopy, with demonstrated resolution of fractions of ananometer, more than 1000 times better than the optical diffraction limit. The precursor to the AFM, the scanning tunneling microscope, was developed by Gerd Binnig and Heinrich Rohrer in the early 1980s, a development that earned them the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1986. All microscopes which provide images of atoms on or in the surface of any body is called atomic force microscope or the AFM, while all those microscopes which uses the principle of the atomic force microscopes are called as scanning probe microscope or the SPM S.
These scanning probe microscopes work by measuring a local property such as height ,optical absorbtion magnetism etc ,by scanning over the sample by measuring the above property and providing the image on the television,with the probe or the t ....etc
