Thermo acoustic have been known for over years but the use of this phenomenon to develop engines and pumps is fairly recent. Thermoacoustic Refrigerator

In 1987 an international group of scientists and Government Officials established the Montreal protocol, an agreement to control the use and release of CFC and to schedule a time frame for eliminating their production. This agreement is a historic step in the on going process of building consensus regarding environmental impact of CFC.
