Growth of the Internet raised issues that were not envisaged during design of its underlying protocol. Internet Protocol version 4 is faced with the twin problems of lack of scalability and flexibility. A MANET (Mobile Adhoc Network) is an infrastructure-less self configuring wireless networks of routers. It has potential applications in totally unpredictable and dynamic environment. Routing protocol used here is a form of reactive routing called AODV. AODV (Adhoc On Demand Distance Vector) routes based on demand. This paper presents Random Early Detection (RED) gateways
for congestion avoidance in packet-switched networks.
The gateway detects incipient congestion by computing
the average queue size. The gateway could notify
connections of congestion either by dropping packets arriving
at the gateway or by setting a bit in packet headers.
When the average queue size exceeds a preset threshold,
the gateway drops or marks each arriving packet with a
certain probability, where the exact probability is a function
of the average queue size.
