In this paper, the implementation of a shunt active power filter with a small series reactor for a three-phase system is presented. The system consists of multiple non-linear loads, which are a combination of harmonic current sources and harmonic voltage sources, with significant unbalanced components. Abstract
Solid state control of ac power using diodes, thyristors and triacs injects the harmonics into the ac mains. These injected harmonics cause low efficiency in the supply system, poor power factor and EMI problems. Active filters have been considered a potential candidate to reduce these problems. This paper deals with an active power-filter (APF) based on simple control with optimum selection of energy storage capacitor. In this seminar a method for wideband harmonic compensation is presented. The main circuit configuration of the system is shown in Fig. 2. The system compensates the low order harmonics using a simple computational control delay compensation method, while the high order harmonics are filtered with a small passive high pass filter.
