Abstract

This study presents an experimental study on self-compacting concrete (SCC) with two cement content. The work involves three types of mixes, the first consisted of different percentages of fly ash (FA), the second uses different percentages of silica fume (SF), and the third uses a mixture of FA and SF. After each mix preparation, nine cylinder specimens are cast and cured. SILICA FUME CONCRETE

INTRODUCTION

Silica fume is also referred to as micro silica or condensed silica fume but the term silica fume has been generally accepted
The addition of ultra fine particles in concrete improves strength of concrete
The optimum proportion of silica fume is found in between 20% and 25% by weight of concrete
Silica Fume when react with calcium hydroxide on hydration of cement produces calcium siicate hydrate which has good binding properties.

Eleven concrete mixes were used with cement quantities from 140 to 405 kg of cement per m3 and condensed silica fume substitutions varying from 10 to 40%. In spite of the great reactivity of the aggregates, the alkali-aggregate reaction is still under control.
